Food on Our Face: Refresh, Rejuvenate, Renew

When Spring arrives, we begin to shed the layers of clothing and ready ourselves for warmer, sunnier weather. And, we think about rejuvenating our skin, exfoliating dead skin cells for smooth Spring- and Summer-ready skin.

But, why wait? How about beginning today? We’re often asked how best and how often to exfoliate. We suggest exfoliating once a week to rid dead skin cells, to allow the skin to breathe and to regenerate. We prefer using masks over scrubs, particularly for the face, since scrubs can be overly abrasive, break sensitive skin and spread bacteria.

We’ve tried many ways to exfoliate the skin. Here are some natural, fun ways that we’ve tried, and we were happy to have food on our face : )!

1) Strawberries: Mash up some ripe strawberries (preferably organic) and smooth onto face, avoiding the eye area. Leave on for 10-15 minutes, then rinse. Rich in vitamin C and alpha-hydroxy acids to gently exfoliate and refresh dull skin.

2) Almonds: Grind into fine grains. Mix with some water into a paste and use as a gentle facial scrub.

3) Papaya: Like strawberries, feel free to slather on these fruits! Deseed, scoop out the flesh and mash up. Use as a mask to rejuvenate skin.

4) Lemons: Slice up and smooth the flesh of the lemons over skin. The acids will help to slough off dead skin cells.

After cleansing and exfoliating, remember to moisturize the skin to protect from moisture loss. And, if you’re heading outdoors, don’t forget to apply sunscreen. Enjoy and thank you for being kind to your body!
